Dangers

Many people think that dangers are only outside that indoor cats are very safe. But that can be un-true. This page is to educate people on some of the things that can be Dangerous and even deadly to your cat or kitten.

Plants
Even though your new kitten will be indoors their are still many hazards such as nails, rubber bands, glue, string, thumbtacks thread uncovered food, open washer or dryer, and breakable items. Plants are also one of the number one things that can harm your cat. Here is a list of plants to keep out of your home when you own a kitten or cat. Azalea, Caladium, Christmas Rose, Clematis, Delphinium, Dieffenbachia, Ivy, Lupine, Mistletoe, Oleander, Philodendron, Poinsettia, Cherry Laurel, Rhododendron, Solanum, and Sweet Pea. If your notice your cat or kitten has consumed a poisonous plant please contact your vet immediately!

Rodent Poisons
If your kitten gets into rodent poisons signs of poisoning would be restlessness, abdominal pain, vomiting, bleeding, diarrhea, and could cause death.

Antifreeze
Antifreeze is said to have a sweet smell so a cat or kitten may mistake it for a treat if left out. If your cat or kitten has consumed antifreeze they will start to have a lack of coordination, vomiting, and eventually convulsions followed by a coma.

Painkillers
Never leave any medicine bottle open. Aspirin such as Advil also has a sweet smell and that is why some cats and dogs will eat them. This can cause your cat to have a sudden loss of balance, vomiting, and their gums can turn blue if swallowed.

Disinfectants and Cleaners
Never leave a mop bucket with water and cleaner in it or any kind of cleaners open. This can cause muscle twitching, drooling, convulsions, and even a coma.

If in the event that your cat or kitten consumes any of these please contact your veterinary immediately. Always have a first aid kit for your cat or kitten. And also have a veterinary emergency number on hand at all times! These are just a few Dangers in your home so please make sure to always supervise your cats and kittens and never leave any of these dangers available to them.
